Dr. Jones holds an MD degree from the University of Louisville, two MSc degrees from King’s College London (global health with conflict and security studies) and Tulane University (clinical research methods and biostatistics), and earned his DTM&H from the Gorgas Course in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in Lima, Peru. He competed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in global health and hospital medicine. He joined the UF Faculty in 2021 and became track director for the global health residency track in 2022. He was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and an Associate of King’s College (AKC) in 2023.

Since 2020, Dr. Jones has served on the board of directors for MedGlobal, a Chicago-based international humanitarian organization which responds to humanitarian emergencies in conflict and disaster areas. In this humanitarian capacity, he is the chairperson for MedGlobal’s internal affairs committee, the medical lead for CBRNE training, and frequently works in MedGlobal clinical sites around the world which have included Ghana, Peru, Colombia, Greece, Ukraine and in educational capacities in NW Syria, Sudan, Bangladesh, Ecuador. Beyond patient care, he studies peace negotiations, rebuilding health systems after civil war, and the role of health in reinforcing or undermining the transition to peace. Along with colleagues in the UK, Dr. Jones was recognized in the House of Commons for redesigning the medical education curriculum as a means to rebuild societies after war which is now used throughout the Horn of Africa, US Senate and the House of Representatives and the American College of Physicians for humanitarian work in Ukraine, and is a recipient of the MedGlobal Humanitarian Award for events in Ukraine.

He is also a hospitalist.
