Professional Biography
- Dr. Kittelson is Medical Director for the UF Health Palliative Care Program, providing operational and clinical leadership for the palliative care team. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado for both her undergraduate and medical degrees. She then completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Florida. During her training, Dr. Kittelson served as chief resident and was awarded the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teaching Award for Excellence in Education.
- She is board-certified through the American Academy of Family Physicians and has more than 5 years of experience as an inpatient hospitalist at UF Health as well as an emergency medicine physician. As a family medicine physician, she follows the objective to advance the values inherent to family medicine, including promoting humanitarian, educational and scientific initiatives that improve the health of all people.
- Her mission at UF Health is to proactively identify opportunities to improve the care delivered to patients and families, as well as provide education for hospital staff, residents and students. Program goals include future JCAHO accreditation, development of a fellowship program and outpatient palliative care program. The UF Health Palliative Care Program’s initiative is to deliver palliative care as defined by the World Health Organization. We hope to serve our patients and their families by expanding the consult service, developing a palliative care unit and initiating outpatient community involvement with an ultimate academic goal of delivering quality care, enhance communication for early identification of goals of care, reducing pain, and providing education and research to support “primary palliative care” a multidisciplinary, multi-departmental effort to empower each health care provider to practice palliative care
